Over a period of 12 years I pushed hard to fulfil my calling and use my gifts to their full potential. I listened to personal development and motivational books, but none of them had the impact that they promised. I finally realised Read more “When is it God and When is it Me?”
I have learned a very difficult and deep lesson over the last 12 years. It is a fragile, yet powerful, idea that transforms your life from mediocre to truly significant: You are more than your skills and abilities.
The challenge however is letting go. You have to be brave enough to ask yourself what lies beyond your known, fortified self-image informed by how good you are at Read more “You Are More Than Your Skills and Abilities”
A big part of my life is entrepreneurship. What do I mean when I use the word entrepreneurship? Well, that is actually a highly debated topic. Is a guy who starts selling life insurance and has his own little business an entrepreneur? Is the student selling rusks on the side while studying to become a doctor an entrepreneur? Is the guy with a website helping entrepreneurs become more successful an entrepreneur?
Yes, the popularised stereotype of the entrepreneur is the mad risk-taker that recklessly jumps out of the plane, Read more “Perhaps You Think Entrepreneurship is Not For You…?”
Hey there all you interesting people! It’s been a while since my last post, but with clear intent: This is a new season for survivetoalive.com and myself. I am opening up a new chapter and shifting my attention to individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses that want to stand out, do something different and help make this world more interesting.
Here it is Read more “This Is It!”
I am on a journey to discover and express as much of my potential as I can. It is a life long journey and I seek to serve others as the central theme of this journey. To be of great value and have powerful impact is the true north of my compass.
What I have realised on this journey that it is mostly a lonely journey. Although I am always looking for kindred spirits and like-minded individuals or groups, at the end of the day this is my journey and no-one can travel it on my behalf. When I look in the mirror it is jut me there. It is up to me to take all the gifts that I have received an turn them into the man I like to see in the mirror.
No-one else will persevere and be willing to look different, weird, difficult or stupid on my behalf – that’s all on me! I need to keep on believing in me. I have to take the view of Eternity: I have been made for a purpose that will serve this world in order to improve it. As I renew my vision and beliefs every day and become the best version of myself, I help the world around me do the same.
This is the message that I have for you today – Don’t be distracted; this is your journey and if you don’t weigh anchor and aim for the open seas no-one is going to do it on your behalf. It doesn’t matter who you are, remember that today is the day you decided not only to survive but live!
…Go from survive to alive!
When I look around me and listen to the stories of people that are dependent upon some sort of pill, addiction or habit to get them through the day it makes me sad. I know from personal experience how empowering it is to take the hard road led by significance.
I urge you today, if you are using some sort of crutch that society, doctors, friends or family are telling you that you need in order to survive, question that knowledge! Read more “Awaken Your Consciousness”
I’ll bet that you have gone through messy periods in your life because things were just getting out of control. Maybe you’re going through such a time now? What I have seen in my own life as well as the lives of people around me is that there is generally two types of messy.
The first kind is the kind of messy that lurks in the shadow of our neglect. Neglect in terms of health, relationships, responsibility or fear. We avoid engaging in the things in life that bring true meaning and freedom. One day when we are blissfully unaware the mess jumps on us and we realise with a great freight that this mess is taking over and our ability to steer our lives is greatly diminished! …Not so nice!
On the other hand Read more “Two Types of Messy”
Now the writing, and website, is an expression of, and avenue for supporting people to live, not just survive.
Deep inside we all long to live a life worthy of the gifts that have been bestowed upon us.
I add value to entrepreneurs and leaders at all levels. …Those who firstly realise that in order to fully be alive you need to challenge yourself.
Today more than ever my focus is becoming clear. What started out as an exploration with a foggy lens is becoming a laser-like focus and this journey is what I use to help others do the same. I have spent thousands on searching for the path of wisdom. I have spent years developing the mindset that brings fulfillment in ALL areas of life. I am not satisfied with second-best! I am only interested in a life that is better and better every day.
I’m a passionate guy and I communicate passionately. Translation: I can be loud and rather harsh when I am trying to get my point across. A few times in the past I have seen how people mistakenly interpret my best attempts at communicating, what I thought was something insightful and true, as harsh and accusative.
Just this week I explained a challenging situation to a colleague and he very eloquently replied that he does not truly know the other party involved in the situation and at the receiving end of my communication. He did however know me and suggested that instead of reaffirming my point, simply ask the other person how they understood what I said, i.e. what did they hear?
Now, I have been facilitating for years and have hundreds of hours of coaching under my belt but when I am emotionally involved the game changes in an instant. I have to remind myself of what I potentially sound like and I should perhaps come with a warning that reads “CAUTION! Don’t get me wrong.”
Perhaps we should come with some sort of warning sign – “CAUTION! – I bite” or “CAUTION! – I cry easily” or even “CAUTION! – I withdraw when confronted”.
Perhaps we will approach one another with a bit of a different perspective. Perhaps we will get a little better at this living thing.
