Leadership is dead! Long live followership! I’ll bet that if you Google leadership books, courses, resources, etc. you will be overwhelmed with tips, tricks, styles and strategies of becoming a better leader. I don’t doubt that many of those things will help in various ways, but I want to ask you something today: is there something such as leadership or is it just a by-product of following?
Followers of the Way
As you are probably aware (if you have read one or two of my posts) I believe in God, His Son and His Spirit. I believe that He truly is the way. In other words, I use spiritual intelligence to align to the most important connection that I have (a.k.a. God) through singing, music, meditation and prayer and subvert what I think I know to true wisdom from above. In other words, I follow the Way. I am a follower.
A while back I was inspired to create a follower plan. I think I got the term from Graham Cooke, but I can’t be sure. The point is that I have been so busy in the past trying to develop my leadership skills, that I forgot to use my spiritual intelligence and allow my following to result in whatever is the most appropriate according to higher purposes for my life.
What do You Need to Respond TO?
From the perspective of the follower I have to become quiet and listen to what my Father is teaching me at the moment. I have gained enough insight in my life and purpose to know that He is leading me somewhere. The part that I had to play until now and going forward is that of pressing in and sharing my heart (anger frustration, joy, anxiety, love, loneliness…) with Him. You see, even though we think God knows all He is waiting to share an experience with us. It is the experience of being fully known, accepted and loved.
From this experience He adds a process. This process is specifically designed to help us grow. This process is known by a few other names such as trouble, challenge, problems, surprise, blessing, pain, suffering and opportunity. …To name but a few.
The question is, are you aware of what God is teaching you at the moment or are you too busy complaining about the course He has put you on at your request?
From Follower to Follower
I f you decide to respond to the training in a positive manner and overcome your victim mentality you become free. It is a process started or linked to an experience. At every level of life the process and experience gets repeated. Depending on your response to follow where He leads, you can be seen as a follower of the way.
The greatest privilege that I have ever had is to help others follow. …Some call this leadership, but I don’t want to loose perspective – it happens very quickly.
I think you get the point. Join me and let’s go from survive to alive.
