Why I had to Leave the Church to Save my Faith and Marriage

A few years ago I realised that in order to keep my faith and my marriage in tact I needed to get out of the institutional church. I love God and my wife and in that order those are the two most important relationships in my life.

Unfortunately I had repeated experiences in multiple churches that did not agree that my priorities were correct.

It’s Easier to Make It in This World Than it is to Change It

I have mentioned this quote in the past, but after a good conversation with a friend earlier today I thought it would be good to focus on it specifically:  It is easier to make it in this world than it is to change it.  Why?  Because you have to be willing to change yourself first.  Something I learned with greater depth in 2015 when I completed a U.Lab online certification at MIT through edX.

It’s Just You and Your Potential

I am on a journey to discover and express as much of my potential as I can. It is a life long journey and I seek to serve others as the central theme of this journey. To be of great value and have powerful impact is the true north of my compass.

What I have realised on this journey that it is mostly a lonely journey.  Although I am always looking for kindred spirits and like-minded individuals or groups, at the end of the day this is my journey and no-one can travel it on my behalf.  When I look in the mirror it is jut me there.  It is up to me to take all the gifts that I have received an turn them into the man I like to see in the mirror.

No-one else will persevere and be willing to look different, weird, difficult or stupid on my behalf – that’s all on me!  I need to keep on believing in me.  I have to take the view of Eternity: I have been made for a purpose that will serve this world in order to improve it.  As I renew my vision and beliefs every day and become the best version of myself, I help the world around me do the same.

This is the message that I have for you today – Don’t be distracted; this is your journey and if you don’t weigh anchor and aim for the open seas no-one is going to do it on your behalf.  It doesn’t matter who you are, remember that today is the day you decided not only to survive but live!

The Simple Truth Behind Long-Term Business Success

Whenever I make a business decision and whenever I study the truly successful companies globally I find a powerful and simple similarity:  Look to improve all the lives involved in any decision and profit will follow.  Sure, you can ignore this in the short-term and simply look to benefit yourself, but in the long term the companies that earn the greatest profit (financially, emotionally, socially, etc.) are the companies that look to serve a greater cause than money.

Moral Teleportation

portationSo, how’s work?  …A question we get asked so many times a week; month; year…  What do we answer?  “Hey man, it’s fine.”  Or maybe:  “Same old.”  How about “It’s going great!”  Perhaps not so much.  The reality is that no matter where you work, you are expected to conform to the values, principles and beliefs of the organisation (if it’s big) or the values principles and beliefs of the entrepreneur (if it’s small).

Once you step into the corporate space you are transported to a place where you have to submit to a moral environment that is not the same as at home.  In the evenings and on the weekends we have decent relationships, have full access to information, partake in decision making, operate with autonomy and freedom and pay attention to what makes us happy.

Too frequently however the corporate teleportation device beams us into an environment where our true capabilities and creativity is caged by a demanding, invisible shareholder and manager.  Continue reading “Moral Teleportation”

Deep Origin Leads to Greatness!

sprout-1147803_960_720I have been writing insights (what I use to call posts) for the about ten years now.  Originally the writing came as expression of frustration and avenue for creative outlet.

Now the writing, and website, is an expression of, and avenue for supporting people to live, not just survive.
Deep inside we all long to live a life worthy of the gifts that have been bestowed upon us.

I add value to  entrepreneurs and leaders at all levels. …Those who firstly realise that in order to fully  be alive you need to challenge yourself.

Today more than ever my focus is becoming clear.  What started out as an exploration with a foggy lens is becoming a laser-like focus and this journey is what I use to help others do the same.  I have spent thousands on searching for the path of wisdom.  I have spent years developing the mindset that brings fulfillment in ALL areas of life.  I am not satisfied with second-best!  I am only interested in a life that is better and better every day.

How I am Crafting my Career from a Calling

woodworking-691329_960_720Over the last decade I have had approximately 15 jobs in about as many organisations.  It has ranged from consulting to coaching and facilitation to lecturing.  I could not still because I was hungry to find out who I am; what I am good at and ultimately I wanted to have an impact by adding value from my highest potential.

This has not changed a bit!  In fact, I have now entered a phase in my life where I am starting to weave together, or craft, a fulfilling career from following a calling.  After high school I took a year off and it was during this year that I discovered passion and purpose deep inside me.  It is a passion and a purpose that is eternally inspired.

Left to my own devices I would have most probably not been as alive as I am today – who knows where I would have ended up!?
