I know you search for life as I do. I come to you today for just a minute to pose a question that can help you to find the depth and meaning that you are looking for. How have you lost yourself and in the process lost God?
Who am I, Who is God
I find that you and I complicate the search for a life that brings peace. Tell me if this is true: You have read 50 books on business, life and all things ‘important’ and find that the things there just complicate a simple mission. What is the mission? I propose it is a simple meaning with three parts. God, you and other people. Let’s bring it back to the basics right now. I encourage you to ask a simple question(s): Does God like you? Does He want to spend time with you like a friend? Is He interested in the cool art or music you make? Does He smile when improve your time out on the track or trail?
The more I speak to people, the more I find that we are not taught to ask how we can recognise God’s delight in our lives. Tell me, when was the last time you asked God what He likes about you. Ultimately it is about God’s gift of love, but does He like me. Does He have fun when I have fun. Does he cry when I cry? Does God feel my failure as I feel my failure?
Yes, yes, yes!
Start Right Here with my Heart and Desire
Are you a parent? Maybe not yet, but perhaps you know what it feels like to connect with a younger brother or sister. Heck, just coming home to a dog that wags its tail as if she hasn’t seen you in week speaks to that sense of appreciation of life. The joy of sharing that moment with another living thing.
Where do you think that beautiful desire for connection comes from? Hint: We were created with a special blueprint. We were given this desire from the Source. If you take this emotion and understand that God share those emotions about us it reconnects us joy and fulfillment. He can’t wait that we grow laugh, cry, fail, overcome and prosper in our purpose just as we are excited about our kids, family, and yes, dogs (sorry cat lovers 😉 ).
Hope and Faith for the Future
Once you can feel God laugh and cry with you, I pray you understand that He has only the best for you in a broken and hurt world. Here is what I challenge you with. Do not believe the lies that you are bad, guilty or unworthy. I want you to see that the future is faith. Faith is the result of living in another reality and expecting your current circumstances to fall in line.
May God bless your mind with His truth of a future where you laugh, overcome and prosper under any earthly circumstances because you have already experienced it in Spirit and live from it.
Let’s Get Practical
These are some nice words and hopefully you feel encouraged. What does this mean on a daily basis however? What I have just described above is Spiritual Intelligence (or Spiritual Quotient (SQ)): Living everyday on the truth that you are not from here and that it empowers you to prosper under any circumstances.
I guess the follow-up question is how do I cultivate SQ? Well simply put, you cannot cultivate it through using your normal paths of growth. You will need to resolve to find practices that best suit activating your spirit and thereby invite God into your life through times of solitude. In short God wants to give you life, but you have to consistently seek it out. In the seeking you will develop the character to bear the blessings He desires for you.
I can give you an example from my own life: I get audible when I pray. Whether those prayers are sensible or simply groans from the gut. I start these prayer times with the hunger I have inside for a higher existence and then focus bring these desires to God. I focus on this greater desire for God, His ways and things in my life by seeing every breath I take that His presence and ways grows in my life and stay with that thought over and over.
This is just one way; there are many. Music, dance, art, movement – all express His truth in our lives by letting go and allowing His spirit to commune with us. It is a process of letting go and focusing on Him that allows to transcend us beyond the pain and struggle of this world.
The Final Step
Once you are connecting spiritually in the way described above you need people in your life that can help you reflect and plan. This is what I do on a professional basis. Many of my clients come to a place where they need to do the work of developing their own SQ and then work with me to translate that into meaningful life and business strategies. True transformation!
So I encourage you to talk to someone that can help you translate your SQ into practical results. In spirit and truth. Go from survive to alive!
